I feel guilty for not being there for them
I feel guilty for not calling him
I feel guilty when I can’t keep a promise.
I feel guilty when I eat meat
I feel guilty when I remember him again and again
I feel guilty when I procrastinate by spending too much time on Facebook
I feel guilty for cheating
I feel guilty when I tell somebody I will call them back but know that I wont because I am way too busy right now
I feel guilty when I see hunger and poverty in the world
I feel guilty when I get angry with my 15 years old daughter!
I feel guilty over my third child
I felt guilty when I ate the fried butter at the State Fair when my cholesterol is really high.
I feel guilty when I’m rude to my mom.
I feel guilty when I drink soda and not water.
I feel guilty when I miss my exercise sessions.
I feel guilty when I delete the chain letters my grandma sends me through e-mail.
I feel guilty for not wanting to cry over her death
I feel guilty when I eat.
I feel guilty about getting divorced
I feel guilty about having someone else care for my child
I feel guilty because I’m not doing enough
I feel guilty about my past
I feel guilty for not being a vegetarian
I feel guilty for not spending time with my family
I feel guilty for wasting a day
I feel guilty for being sexually attracted to women
I feel guilty dating younger men
I feel guilty when I buy luxury stuff in bad economy
I feel guilty about making money and being successful
I feel guilty about smoking
I feel guilty when I shop

In this rapidly changing knowledge, what is the role of the university? And perhaps more importantly, what is the future of knowledge production, dissemination, and archivization?
The printing press revolutionized the ways knowledge was being transferred and consequently transformed the social space. As we are in the midst of another transformation from analog to digital, we are shifting away from libro-centric based knowledge to networked-based knowledge where production, storing, and transmission of information is radically changing at a rapid pace. As a result universities or the institutions that traffic knowledge must also radically change their business models in order to survive the age of digital and to create empowered citizens for the networked landscape.
In the past decade, we have witnessed newspapers’ struggle to preserve their social function and their relevancy while they insisted on protecting their business model. Educational institutions would follow in the same wrong footsteps if they continue to use internet as a delivery system for their “knowledge” product instead of treating knowledge as a process to produce and share information. Although no one knows exactly how the future of the education would be like, it is clear that the analog-based structure of educational institutions has to be revised and reshaped…
These are among the many issues that Dr. Dave Parry addresses in his talk “The University and the future of knowledge” which was held at University of Texas at Dallas on Sep 9th. Dr. Parry specializes in emerging media, digital culture and literary theory in the School of Arts and Humanities.

June Tangney, professor of psychology at George Mason University, delves into shame and guilt by looking into various facets of our society. Recent research indicates that guilt is the more adaptive emotion and can motivate people to behave in a moral, caring, socially responsible manner.

My next video/sound art project will deal with the idea of *guilt*.
Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about this term, this emotion we sometimes experience . Why is it that we feel guilty over the things we do, things we say, or even things we think of? Why is it that we sometimes force ourselves to feel guilty even when we know we haven’t done wrong? And how much does our upbringing (or culture) have to do with the amount of guilt we feel?
Here, I’ll be posting my thoughts, findings, and observations on this subject mainly to document the research/creative process along the way. I’m also hoping to hear from everyone about their personal stories and experiences as well.
